2021 – 2023

I was given a rough outline of the data Mesotech's software could retrieve and the creative freedom to reimagine STATUS.AWOS, an outdated internal dashboard used by engineers and technicians.

What began as a UX redesign evolved into a more intuitive fleet-monitoring platform, with additional capabilities developed to support Department of Defense requirements.

Project Highlights
Ahead of schedule
Originally due July 2023. Approved and launched in May 2023.

Designed with real users
Research and usability testing with engineers and technicians working in the field and remotely.

Business impact
The platform's expanded capabilities helped demonstrate Mesotech's technology during its successful pursuit of a $31 million DoD contract.

The Short Version

Designing for the people using it.

I worked directly with engineers and technicians who relied on STATUS.AWOS during installations and remote troubleshooting. The original dashboard contained valuable information, but finding what you needed often meant navigating multiple steps and digging through technical data. I gathered feedback, listened to their frustrations, and asked what they wished the software could do differently.

The goal wasn't to show more data. It was to make the right information easier to find.

From feedback to features.

Using what I learned, I rethought the interface around how our teams actually worked. The redesign introduced clearer system status indicators, simplified navigation, responsive layouts, interactive fleet mapping, and quicker access to system histories. I also worked on secure credential-based access so technicians could retrieve information while installing or troubleshooting systems in the field. Throughout the process, I tested designs with our internal teams and refined features based on their feedback.

The result was a more approachable, practical experience built around the people using it every day.

What I took away.

This project reminded me that some of the most meaningful design improvements aren't flashy.

They're the steps someone no longer has to take, the information they can find at a glance, and the frustration they don't have to deal with anymore.

Good design makes complicated work feel a little less complicated.

A Note on Confidentiality
*This project includes proprietary work, so the designs aren't publicly available. I'm always happy to chat about my process, design decisions, and approach to solving the problem.

A redesign that opened new doors.

As STATUS.AWOS evolved, we expanded the platform with an Operations Intelligence dashboard and additional features required for the DoD initiative.

The expanded experience demonstrated what Mesotech's technology could do and contributed to the company's successful pursuit of a $31 million Department of Defense contract.

What started as a modernization effort became part of a much larger business opportunity.
